Here, you do not simply come to admire remarkable architecture: you take the time to understand the history of the monument, its connection with the surrounding region, and to enjoy a complete experience focused on heritage, wine and gastronomy.
Often associated with Marguerite de Bourgogne, it is also surrounded by several stories and legends that still add to its charm today.

A guided tasting with a winemaker
After the castle visit, we took part in a tasting led by Valentin, a passionate and fascinating winemaker.
This moment was one of our highlights of the visit. Far from a classic tasting where you simply move from one glass to another, Valentin takes the time to explain wine differently, speaking above all about the terroir, grape varieties and the influence of the soils on the different cuvées.
His winemaker’s approach, centered on the land and the work in the vineyards, makes the experience different from those we had previously enjoyed in Beaune or Dijon. You do not just taste a wine: you better understand its story, from the plot to the glass.
Of course, even if you are not a great wine specialist, the tasting remains accessible and interesting. The exchanges make the experience more lively and allow you to leave with a better understanding of the terroir of the Côtes du Couchois.
The rooftop of the Château de Couches
If there is one experience that makes the Château de Couches particularly original, it is undoubtedly its rooftop set at the top of the Justice tower.
It is quite surprising to discover a panoramic terrace at the top of a medieval castle. After visiting the ancient stones and historic rooms, the atmosphere changes completely: it is time for a relaxing moment facing the landscapes of Burgundy.
From the rooftop, the view over the vineyards and surrounding hills is superb. It is the kind of place where you feel like slowing down, enjoying the scenery and taking the time to savor the moment.

To extend this experience, we had lunch at the restaurant Le Blason de Vair, located directly within the castle grounds. The setting obviously adds to the pleasure of the meal: having lunch in a historic place gives the experience a special dimension.
But it was above all the quality of the dishes that truly won us over. The cuisine highlights local and seasonal products, with a desire to showcase producers from the region. The dishes are as beautiful as they are delicious, with careful work on flavors and presentation.
The estate’s wines naturally accompany the meal and allow you to continue the discovery that began during the tasting. After the cellar and the rooftop, lunch at Le Blason de Vair was another real highlight of this day at the Château de Couches.
Staying overnight at the Château de Couches
To extend this Burgundian escape, it is also possible to spend a night directly at the Château de Couches thanks to the guest rooms arranged within the estate.
We did not have the opportunity to stay there during our visit, but the experience must be particularly pleasant: enjoying the calm of the castle once the visitors have left, discovering the place in a different light and waking up among the vineyards of the Couchois area… A lovely idea for a romantic weekend or a wine tourism getaway in Burgundy.
