Martinique

Thinking of visiting Martinique? This island in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean, combines idyllic beaches, lush tropical nature and Creole culture, with a very French feel.

Where is Martinique? It is an overseas region of France, between Saint Lucia and Dominica. People speak French and Creole, and the currency is the euro. Most flights from Europe go via Paris, with a flight time of around 8.5 hours to Fort-de-France.

We spent 8 days exploring the island, from the wilder north (Route de la Trace, Balata Garden, Saint-Pierre) to the beaches of the south such as Grande Anse des Salines, boat trips to see dolphins and iconic islets like the famous Josephine’s Bath.

The best time to visit Martinique is the dry season, roughly from December to May. It is an ideal destination for mixing relaxation, a road trip and nature: in our articles, you’ll find our itinerary, the best things to do in Martinique and our practical tips.
